This is another good option for free website promotion. Become part of a banner exchange program! You will have to ad some HTML to your web site to show a banner. Every time that banner is shown on your site you will earn a credit, with a 1:1 exchange ratio your banner will be shown on another members site once for every credit. If it is a 1:2 exchange ratio your banner will be shown once for every two banners shown on your site, and all of this is free. The nice thing about banner exchange is that once you've set it up on your web site, it runs by itself. Especially if they give you credits for referrals

Banner Creation

In order to use these banner exchanges you will have to get a banner of your own. It should be a very pulling banner because you want people to click on it! You can get a free banner very easily, but the problem with these free banners is that the same lay out of the banner is used by thousands of people. The only difference is the text on that banner.
 

I would suggest to have your banner designed especially for your web site or product by a company that knows how to create attractive banners.

Animation online - At animation online you will be able to create an animated banner with your own text for free.

Ad designer - Ad designer will also let you create your own animated banner for free, but they have a greater choice of lay outs.

TxtSwap - At TxtSwap they have a text link exchange. Text links are said to be more effective than banners, you also don't have to put an image on your site which will slow down the loading.

Free-banners - Free, you will get a 2:1 exchange ratio and 20% of your referrals impressions. You will also be able to become a gold member with lots of extra's

Linkbuddies - Free, you can get up to a 1:1 exchange ratio depending on your number of clickthru's. you will also get 10% of your referrals' impressions.

Wackiman - Free, this is something in between the guaranteed hits programs and the banner exchange programs, you get 500.000 credits when you sign up (yes, really 500.000!). I'm not sure about the referral network.
